Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream: Review

By Rmyah

I have crazy skin. By crazy I mean super oily T zone and super dry cheek area. Super dry as in Sahara Desert dry. In short….crazy skin.. 😉

Consequently, I have always been on the lookout for a well balanced hydrating moisturizer for my skin. Please do note that I say hydrating moisturizer…Sahara Desert does need water right….

Online shopping has been a boon for a maniac like me and one fine day while I was browsing through the plethora of e –commerce stores, I came across Vellvette featuring the Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream.

First instinct…never trust online shopping….second instinct…Why don’t I google it? So I did….google it I mean…trusted my second instinct.

Heard rave reviews about this one so I went ahead and ordered the little tube. Oh by the way, Vellvette does have an amazing delivery!! Got my order the very next day.

Price: 890 for a 60 gram tube.

I’ve been using this for about two months now and ooh lah laah…my skin thanks me everyday for it.

Packaging: the Mary Kay extra emollient night cream…whew!! such a mouthful! It comes in a pale pink squeeze tube with a black screw cap at the end. The packaging is super super cute but I totally hate the screw cap. I have a tendency of losing caps so a definite hate.

Texture: Have you seen Vaseline?? This cream looks exactly like that. Same consistency and same look. The color though is a very pretty baby pink shade. And the smell is pretty nice…flowery, very mild and does not linger. Its texture is waxy to semi liquid but blends pretty well into the skin.

Ingredients: Primary ingredient is the same as Vaseline which is petrolatum. Or petroleum as we tend to call it. This also contains paraffin wax, beeswax, Calendula wax, Carnauba wax, Stearic acid, Propyl and methyl parabens and mineral oils.

I think this is just a sophisticated version of saying “You’ve got Vaseline” plus it contains parabens to which some people, not me, are allergic. I don’t really mind… I mean people aren’t dying are they 😉

What Vellvette says about the product:

Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream forms a protective shield to minimize moisture evaporation and allow increased hydration of dry areas, especially hands, elbows, knees and feet. Factors like temperature, humidity, age and hormones can upset the skin’s moisture balance. Experts recommend optimal moisturization for all skin types to leave skin soft, smooth and youthful-looking. Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream, a fragrant, translucent moisturizing cream, helps maintain the natural moisture of the skin and replenishes hydration in dry areas. It is excellent for dry patches, especially on hands, elbows and feet.

How to use: Apply a small amount to clean skin after your regular moisturizer as needed (only use in the evening). For added hydration, dampen skin with water prior to applying
.”

This is what Vellvette says, so here’s what I say…..Why would you dampen skin with water when the product is so waxy, dumb I say.

And the claims?? It did make my skin softer and smoother and more youthful looking, but that was done by my trusted Vaseline too. To be used on elbows and knees. are you kidding me?? 900 bucks for the elbows???

It makes my skin waxy just like Vaseline and anyone with Oily skin would sweat buckets after putting this on. Greasy and oily is the word for it. Oily skinned beauties….off you go. Parched skin might feel relieved after this but really…nothing a tub of Vaseline can’t do. Absolutely did not break me out. But then nothing does.

I do like this cream but it definitely does not rate more than the Vaseline does. And moreover Vaseline is available everywhere and this on the other hand is available on the Velvette site.

Gosh this review sounds more and more like a Vaseline advertisement than a Mary Kay review but still I’d rather buy ten tubs of Vaseline and use them all at once on my elbows rather than spending 900 on a night cream that does the same work.

I guess my first instinct was right….Never trust Online Shopping! Lesson truly learnt after a considerable loss of money :’(
