For those of you who read my posts regularly, you’d know I have this obsession with mix and match so much so that all my wedding sarees and blouses were mixed and matched! My mom and the tailor went crazy to say the least but it was well worth it in the end. So, in conclusion, I decided to do some justice to this craziness – an entire series dedicated on how I mix and match!
The Mix and Match series focuses on inspiring others to experiment with Indian ethnic wear. Indian ethnic attire isn’t always about bright, loud colors but it is also about being elegant, unique prints and putting together various unique combinations and fabrics that work together. Mixing and matching is a form of art. There are no rules (Well, maybe, just maybe, there are one or two) but yet you may get it wrong if you go overboard! ;)
In my Dupatta Mania post, I had shown how you could spruce up a plain salwar using three different dupattas. A lot of you seemed to have loved that, so it was only right to show you more options and put forth more ideas.
How to mix and match: A blouse with several colors and/or prints with a saree
Usually we would all pick a saree and then pick a matching blouse but this time, let’s do things the other way round. 😉
- Option 1: Choose a plain saree in one of the less prominent colors found in the blouse.
- Option 2: Choose a saree in the most prominent color of the blouse but make sure your accessories aren’t are in the same color as well! Overdoing the monotone effect kills!
- Option 3: A saree in a combination of two of the less prominent colors
- Option 4: Contrast colors work too! The trend that never dies is combining contrast colors. For e.g: You could pair a maroon, olive green kalamkari blouses or even a shocking pink with green or blue prints with a plain yellow saree (depending on the shade of yellow) and it would go well even if yellow isn’t a part of the blouse!
- Option 5: Saree Border colors: This one is a no-brainer. You could simply pick a blouse in the same color with preferably prints/patterns in the same color (self-prints) as your saree border color (provided your saree is not overloaded with prints!). Safe and yet beautiful!
- Bonus tip: If your saree has stunning prints/patterns, let it shine. Pair it with a plain blouse in either the border color or a contrast color.
