Maybelline Bold Matte Lipstick: MAT 2: Review/Swatch/LOTD

Bold, Matte, Neon. All these words instantly make my wallet empty. When Maybelline launched the Bold Matte lipsticks in India I couldn’t control my excitement and when Janani showed us the swatches of the entire range, it made me think of candy land! The very next day after the swatches were posted, I picked up two of these for myself and presenting to you, one of them, called MAT 2. Sigh.. Wish they had better names! Like A Pop of Orange or OMG Orange?? Anyway, like I always console myself, what’s in a name??

Price:  375 INR for 3.9g
Packaging: I love the packaging! The lipstick comes in a silver tube with lovely matte orange-y cap and has a sticker at the bottom of the tube which comes in the color of the lipstick with all the details. Now, here’s a word of caution though, similar to what I had mentioned in the High Shine Gloss review. All the details (ingredients included!) are printed on the cover which needs to peeled off for the lipstick to be used.

The colors in the Bold Matte range are all extremely fun. You can see the swatches of all 5 shades in the range here.

Description as on Maybelline site:

  • Hydrating matte with honey nectar
  • Moisturising agents like rosa canina oil and jojoba oil
  • Powderless matte pigments ensure true vivid shades
Ingredients:

Color: MAT 2 looks like a pure unadulterated orange in the tube but.. wait for it.. it isn’t!! Not surprised eh?? Well, it looks orange in a certain angle, a neon pink in another and when applied it looks like a mix of a neon orange and pink with a slight tone of red in it when worn full-on. Later when it fades away to a stain, it looks more of coral.

So let’s get back to the packaging again. On the top part of the cap, there is a reflective metallic sort of thing which looks like a mirror. It is convenient for touch-ups and is a good thing to incorporate on a lipstick tube.
When the lipstick is applied, it glides on smoothly, no doubt. But when applied, and this is for those of you have dry lips, it makes the dryness and flakiness look prominent. So a suggestion at this point would be to exfoliate your lips thoroughly, apply a lip balm let it be for half an hour before using this. This makes the color look fabulous on the lips!
As a matte lipstick it sets as a beautiful soft matte that doesn’t make the lips feel dry nor it does it cling on to the lips in a very obvious way. If you do your prep work, this lipstick will be your lips’ bff!!
In terms of staying power, it stayed on me for about 5 hours (with the occasional snacking) and it did not transfer to any glass I drank anything from. The color then faded to a beautiful stain, which looks uneven and patchy if lips are dry.
On my extremely dry lips, this is how it looks 😛

Final Word: I love MAT 2 in the Maybelline Bold Matte range and it is my kind of color. ALWAYS exfoliate your lips before you use any lipstick from this range though. As for the lipsticks, I totally recommend them! They bring life to an otherwise dull day!
