Hot Off the Runway Makeup Trends

By Priya Rane

The past Fashion Weeks of SS14 saw plenty of ‘barely there’ makeup looks with only a small handful that truly looked unique and out of the box looks. While Indian designers like Manish Malhotra, Anita Dongre and Tarun Tahiliani kept it simple and clean – Little Shilpa, Givenchy, Dior and Vivienne Westwood dazzled the eyes of makeup artists around the world.

It seems to me that the runway was the place to do it this season! Ace makeup artists like Clint Fernandes, Pat Mcgrath, Kapil Bhalla and Val Garland designed some stunners for us to look back on season after season.

Lips:

ID-10095242The much celebrated trend of last season has been replaced by this season’s growing fondness of pinks and citrus shades. The citrus-y shades like Maybelline Color Sensational’s Bold Matte Lipstick and pink shades of L’Oreal Paris Rouge Caresse Lipstick are completely wearable and if topped with a few layers of heavy L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Mascara it will make you look no lesser than your favorite celeb!

Cheeks:

In complete contrast to last season’s bronze and dark cheek looks, this year’s trend saw a lot of light baby pink blushes with extremely light tint. The ‘no makeup’ look was a stellar trend at major fashion weeks this year. Maybelline Cheeky Glow blush can be applied on the apple of your cheeks for a fresh girly look. However if you like to enhance your cheek bones you can dab some Lakme 9 to 5 Pure Rouge Blusher of it on your cheek bones.

The eye makeup was kept to minimal. The famous cat eye look parted ways with the runway as minimal yet edgy eye makeup hit the runway this season. Metallic dual tone makeup ruled all the shows and the makeup artists blindly relied on this trend. You can create the metallic eye look with NYX Single Eyeshadow which is available in beautiful metallic shades.

Eyebrows:

Dior show was all about glam and glitter be it the outfits or the makeup, literally! The Dior outfits were high on metallics and florals, to complement the collection Pat Mcgrath created the golden eyebrow look. Models spilled glamour on the runway with their metallic makeup and golden eyebrows. She created this look by spraying some gold powder onto the eyebrows and added 2-3 drops of Toni&Guy Glamour: Moisturizing Shine Spray for it to set.

Hair:

Most popular hair trend of SS’14 was the loose low bun and high ponytails. Some designers opted for loose wavy and free flowing hair to complement the easy breezy look. Tie a loose messy bun and spritz some TIGI Bed Head Masterpiece Massive Shine Hairspray for a strong hold.

While most of the designers played safe with the minimalistic metallic look, Lady Gaga’s favourite Indian designer Little Shilpa’s show was left, right and center crazy! The models sashayed down the runway in jet black garments sporting a wild and horror inspired look. The funky head gears added the special Little Shilpa touch to the show.

Another unique show was presented by internationally acclaimed designer Vivienne Westwood. The ‘Red Label’ show was spooky and makeup Artist Val Garland designed a look to inspire the runway with the obscurity of a little girl’s struggle story.
