DIY Homemade Face Pack: Anti-Ageing and for Glowing Skin

Hola!

Happy Weekend! How’s the weekend coming along? Mine’s been good so far. 🙂

DIY Face mask for glowing skin

Today, I thought of sharing a face pack I put together by accident. I just needed something to slather on my face before a wedding I was attending and I put together three ingredients which I use separately otherwise and voila! It worked for me. My face looked brighter and I’ve been using this pack with a slight variation everyday (more on that later in this post).

You’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp green gram flour (mung flour) if you have dry/normal skin
  • 1 tbsp chickpea flour (besan) if you have oily skin
  • Âœ tsp wild turmeric (kasthuri manjal) powder
  • Chamomile tea for the above three powders to reach a paste consistency

How to use:

  1. Mix the ingredients till well combined.
  2. Apply an even layer on face and neck and leave it till it dries. You will feel a tightening sensation which is normal since all the three ingredients aid skin tightening.
  3. Remove the pack using a wet soft cloth or wash it off with water at room temperature.

If you want to use it as a face wash then leave it on for 2-3 minutes, massage it gently into the skin and wash it off. I usually apply it before I go for my bath and wash it off once I’m done.

Since I have dry skin, I use green gram flour. Every night I use green gram flour and chamomile tea together as a face wash. I add wild turmeric to this mix every alternate day. Sometimes I just mix chamomile tea and kasthuri manjal (wild turmeric) and apply it on my under-eye area. While kasthuri manjal reduces wrinkles and fine lines, Chamomile tea helps get rid of dark circles.

The consistency of the face pack should ideally be as shown in the picture below. If you want it to use it as a face wash you could make the consistency slightly thinner by adding more chamomile tea.

I use the Korakundah Organic Chamomile Green Tea. I drink this tea every night before bed and I absolutely love it and I have a more relaxed sleep. Since I drink this everyday I reserve a little for my genius DIY. 😉

There are days when I forget to reserve a little chamomile tea for the face pack and here’s what I do then. I either soak the same tea bag in warm water and use a less concentrated version of the tea or I simply cut open the tea bag and mix the wet tea leaves and water with the green gram flour and turmeric. This works well as a mild scrub too!

Why Green gram (or) Chickpea flour?
Both green gram and chickpea flour have anti-ageing benefits. It helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles and removes any sort of dirt from the skin as well, leaving the skin clean. Both help tighten the skin as well. Win-win! Chickpea flour literally sucks out all the oil from the skin which is why it isn’t suitable for dry/normal skin. I’ve tried it in my face packs and my skin didn’t look or feel good at all.

Why Wild Turmeric (Kasthuri Manjal)?
Kasthuri Manjal is a wonderful ingredient with plenty of benefits. Kasthuri Manjal aids in tan removal, decreases the effect of sunburns and also helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Wild Turmeric is also used in face washes and face packs to remove unwanted facial hair and for glowing skin. Wild Turmeric also helps reduce acne and acne scars.

Wild Turmeric is different from the turmeric we use for cooking. The turmeric we use in cooking will stain the skin as compared to wild turmeric.

Why Chamomile Tea?
Chamomile Tea is rich in antioxidants, calms the skin and helps reduce under-eye dark circles. It also aids in reducing acne, acne scars and tan. Chamomile tea used regularly in skincare routine acts as a natural skin bleach.

Turmeric and Chamomile Tea have antiseptic properties and all the three ingredients brighten skin.
