The Jhumka Diaries: Embrace, Empower and Enjoy!

I enjoy wearing Indian ethnic wear and I haven’t felt ashamed of it nor have I felt out of place because of it. Today a girl asked me if I felt out of place since our country was progressing and that it is totally “uncool” to wear Indian wear when women are now embracing the western culture. I did not take that question offensively but rather felt sorry for her so called forward thinking. So today, in this post, I would like to tell you all that no, I am not ashamed of embracing my culture, cherishing the traditions of my country and wearing clothes and jewellery that I love. I am proud to flaunt prints that originated here. I am proud of who I am and how far I have come.

I just want to take this moment to tell you that it is always good to stand up for what you are and what you want. Cherish your features, body and your style. Be thankful for what you have. Following the crowd because of social pressure harms noone but you. Be original. Be yourself. 🙂 This is how I am and this is how I’ll always be.

What is your perspective on this?
