Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lipgloss: 40 Captivating Coral: Review/Swatch/LOTD

If I had to give the world a piece of advice, it would be ‘Save Trees, Save Electricity, Save Water.. and oh! Don’t forget to wear Orange!’ Call me obsessed or a freak, but anything orange is just something I fall in love with instantly. So when the Maybelline High Shine Lipglosses were launched, I fell in love with some of the colors in the collection (instalove I must say!) and one of them is an orange lipgloss called ‘Captivating Coral’. It is not coral in any angle or under any lighting according to me but what’s in a name!!

Maybelline ClaimsMore Vibrant Color from our pure liquid pigments. Cleaner Shine from our 100% wax-free gloss; In 12 arresting shades.

Price:  350 INR for 5ml

Color: Captivating Coral is a “happy go lucky” tangerine shade. It looks different when swatched on the hand and when applied on the lips. If you are the kind who is scared to wear orange yet desire to wear one, then this would be a good one to start with.

Packaging: The lipgloss comes in a transparent white rectangular tube with a silver cap. The only issue I had with the packaging was, that the name of the lipgloss was printed in nice bold letters on the seal of the lipgloss. So obviously when the seal is removed, there is no sign of the name of the lipgloss anywhere! Oh wait! it is there on the bottom of the tube but let’s just say you would probably end up with a permanent squint if you have to read that! 😛

The above picture was taken with my phone before I ripped it off to try the gloss! Sorry about the quality of the picture!

I’m a huge lipstick fan and there are these rare moments when I reach out for a lipgloss but Captivating Coral is something I’m reaching out to quite often these days because of the shine and it works really well over a sheer orange lipstick or even an orange lip liner for a day look.

On its own, the lipgloss looks pigmented and opaque when swatched on the hand but is semi-sheer when applied on the lips. The color is buildable but I would say that this one is not the kind to give you full on color in one swipe like Plum Luster in the same range. Although the lipgloss is creamy, it does not feel heavy on the lips.

The shine is amazing!! All I want to do wearing this is pout all the time! I look gross pouting by the way! But if there is a lipgloss that makes me feel good pouting despite me knowing that it looks terrible but gives me the confidence to pout it is this one! 😉

The wand is a  thinner version of a doe foot wand and flexible to an extent but I find that the application is uneven so I usually take a small amount of the gloss on the back of my hand and dab it on with my finger. I find that it gives a more even finish than with the wand. Using a lip brush would also give you a more even finish. Or another option would be to apply it using the wand that comes with the gloss and then spread it evenly with your finger! And all these three options suggested have been tried and tested. 😛

There is a slight citrus fragrance to the lipgloss which doesn’t last long on the lips.

The lipgloss on its own lasts on me for about 2 and a half hours. It lasted for an hour and half on its own whenever I was on the “munch, crunch and drink” mode. When layered over a lipstick, it lasts longer (like really? did I mention the obvious??)

Applied using the wand that comes with the gloss (swiped twice)

Final Word: If you are looking for a pop of color and love the feel of a light lipgloss on your lips then this one is a must have! Not only does this look good on its own, it works really well when layered over a lip liner!
