Lakme Absolute Matte Lip Color in Grape Blossom: Review and Swatches

The Lakme Absolute collection was one of the most awaited collection of the year (with Kareena Kapoor endorsing the collection the hype and expectation were as high as the launch of a MAC collection!) I was eyeing only two things from this collection: the day sheer blush and the wet to dry compact. I bought the blush but yet to buy the compact.

To my “absolute” surprise I was gifted the lipstick I’m reviewing today (Grape Blossom) and a lipgloss from this collection and my mom bought the 16 Hour Long Stay Foundation which I have free access to 😀 . The irony is I didn’t want to get any of the lipsticks at all since the colors weren’t appealing and matte lipsticks were a big no-no since I have dry lips. But the shade which was gifted to me (thankfully!) was a pretty plum color with very very minute shimmer.

Shade No.: 209
Price: Rs 375

What Lakme claims:

The Lakme Absolute Matte Lip colors
  • are non-transferable.
  • Doesn’t look patchy.
  • Wear time of over 6 hours at least, but it doesn’t disappear completely until you remove it.
  • Good variety of shades, along with quite a few unique and uncommon colors.
I’ve always avoided matte lipsticks for two reasons: One being my dry lips and the other being the color settling in to the fine lines and giving me a dreadful appearance!

So I exfoliated my lips (like I do often) and applied a lipbalm. After a few minutes I applied this lipstick and I was ready to go. Unfortunately it dried out my lips further 🙁  and it settled into the fine lines and looked terrible. SO I kept reapplying lipbalm whenever I felt my lips were drying out.

On the good side, the color is pretty and the lipstick is pigmented. One swipe of it will do or you can apply it as a lipstain (which I do with all my dark lipsticks).

It stayed on me for the entire day. Even when it started fading away the color was visible.

So summing up the pros,
The color lasted on me for 6 and half hours straight.
Reasonably priced for a matte lipstick (yet to try the Colorbar one though!)
The silver packaging is classy
Pigmented; One swipe of the lipstick is enough to get the color
And the cons,
Extremely drying on the lips; Unless and until your lips are exfoliated and/or a lipbalm is applied before applying this lipstick it will definitely make your lips dry
Settles into the fines lines and makes your lips look terrible

Swatch:

If you are a lover of matte lipsticks and have gorgeous lips sans fine lines then this one is for you!
I would give this a 3/5
