Guest Post: Maybelline Colour Sensational Moisture Extreme Lipstick: Dusky Mauve: Review/Swatch

Hi all! This is my first review, hope it will be useful, please share your comments and suggestions 🙂 Now moving on to the review, the product I’m going to review today is one of my all-time favorite lippie “Dusky Mauve” from Maybelline Coloursensational Moisture Extreme range 🙂 I’m sure most of you would already be having atleast one lipstick from this range in your vanity case, they are the best when it comes to drugstore lipsticks but Faces is giving them tough competition now. Anyway, coming back to the review..

Price: I got it for Rs.220/-. Now it has been increased to Rs.250/-

Shelf life: 3 Years
Ingredients: I threw out its wrapper long back, not sure if the ingredients were mentioned in it or not. I couldn’t find its ingredient list on the web too 🙁
Product Description (Taken from Maybelline’s website):
Why You’ll Love It:
  • Fall in love with color, all over again:
  • Crisp Color from pure color pigments
  • Creamy Feel, with a built in lip balm
  • SPF 15 for sun protection
  • 16 Captivating Shades
Shade and Pigmentation:
Here comes the best part, it’s a wearable mauve shade which I’m sure anyone can pull off with ease. It’s a combination of mauve + a hint of pink. When worn lightly it gives a very natural mauve-y pink tint to the lips, which I absolutely adore! It is very pigmented and a single swipe can give you an opaque coverage, so girls with pigmented lips go grab one of these!
Swatches: (L-Without flash, R-With flash)
Staying power and packaging:
These are the two main cons of this lipstick. The packaging is very boring, a dull brown lipstick case doesn’t appeal to me much. It lacks good looks but the case closes tightly and the cap is not loose making it very travel friendly.

The staying power is below average 2-3 hours on an average due to its creamy texture. The glossy finish disappears in an hour and a half. It starts fading evenly without being patchy.

Lip Swatches: (L- Applied very lightly as a tint, R- Applied to full intensity)

  • Glossy finish
  • Smooth, creamy texture
  • Amazing pigmentation
  • Shade will suit all skin tones
  • Has SPF 15
  • Bullet doesn’t melt or break even though the lipstick is creamy
  • Doesn’t accentuate the fine lines in lips

  • Average staying power
  • Boring packaging
  • Bleeds slightly but am sure using a lipliner would solve this problem
  • Colorsensational moisture extreme lipsticks have been blamed for fungal attacks (though I’ve not experienced any such issues)

Final word: Go for it if you are a mauve lover or if you intend to take a plunge into mauve lipsticks.. If you insist on good staying power stay away from these but I feel that this is worth a buy mainly for its shade and texture and for this price its definitely a steal 🙂

Ed’s Note: Ghayathri, welcome to the world of beauty blogging! 🙂 Ghayathri is a final year engineering student from Chennai who loves makeup and photography! This being her first review she is all nervous and excited! Ghayathri you have nothing to be nervous about! Fab job girl! 🙂 :X
